Innovative Bridge and Transitions

Urban agriculture is growing in popularity with interest in how to build economic opportunity and how to find solutions for communities that are food insecure.  This urban “infusion” is raising the bar for the new era of agriculture ready for promotion to an in depth understanding of environmental stewardship.  Sustainability in agricultural practices have been developed to protect our environment and maintain our resource base which leads to a healthier community.

Think ReHemption is creating bridges and partnerships while preparing youth, their families and underserved communities with access to more advanced agricultural concepts so they are ready for the future challenges with the skills and confidence to be effective change agents.    Exposing participants to the technical and business sides of the agricultural industry while creating partnerships that support the seamless transition for participants to matriculate academically or access gainful employment with long lasting professional skills are key factors to ensure successful results.

Underserved communities and people of color are disproportionally on the front lines of the climate crisis and the next generation is unprepared.  Our communities are the most vulnerable in these extreme environmental conditions (i.e. heatwaves, flooding, wildfires) with poverty levels rising and resources declining the future seems barren to many.  Our youth lack access to and are lagging behind in quality exposure to emerging technologies like STEM, coding and renewable energy.  Environmental issues related to air quality, clean water and the impact of natural disasters directly affects underserved communities, and we need customized solutions.

Think ReHemption in partnership with the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB)and other community partners, intend to change that narrative by sharing the knowledge and agricultural education starting with the next generation of innovators.  We are building a sustainable future and opening an honest dialogue around climate justice to ensure that all people, regardless of race and ethnicity, are guaranteed protections from the worst effects of climate change.  We are empowering the next generation with the tools needed to create innovative solutions to climate smart issues.
